Today’s blog looks at stopping procrastination. Many people are crippled by procrastination. Because of procrastination, a person’s journey to success and achievement is often painfully delayed, and regularly stalls out in frustration, guilt, and anger. A delay in a forward march can be a painful thing. When I am ready to be home, I do not want to spend one more hour in an airport due to delays!
What is the definition of procrastinate? It means to defer action or delay. Procrastinate literally means “in favor of tomorrow”. Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today, a quote attributed to Benjamin Franklin, strikes at the heart of procrastination. If I cast my vote in favor of tomorrow when today requires my attention, I may be setting myself up for sabotaging my best intentions.
Your coach at NBS Life Coaching will help you overcome procrastination for a task you are attempting to accomplish or a goal you are wanting to achieve. We want to assist you on your journey to success and well-being. One recent NBS client had a space in her home that was constantly filled with clutter. She could not see the floor due to the piles. She put off cleaning it for almost a year. After just two sessions with her NBS life coach, the surface was completely cleared, and she felt very good. Another person contacted NBS Life Coaching because he wanted his marriage to be stronger. He rated his marriage a 6 but wanted it to be an 8. In his relationship with his wife he procrastinated by walking on eggshells around her to avoid upset, both his and hers. He did not want to upset his wife so he delayed saying what he really wanted to say to his wife. After eight sessions with his NBS Life Coach he happily rated his marriage an 8.2.
How will your NBS Life Coach help you overcome putting off until tomorrow? With many of our clients we utilize the GME approach, or the Game Plan. G stands for Goal. Identifying the goal desired by the client is the first and most important task in life coaching. The client’s goal is most often identified in the initial no-cost consult. Sometimes the client does not identify his or her goal until the first or second consult. M stand for Motivation. We look at motivations from both sides of the half dollar, that is, what are the motivations for delaying and procrastinating and what are the motivations for moving forward and succeeding. The motivation period is frequently the moment when the client tips the odds ever in their favor. The E stands for Execution. What is executed is a new way and new approach to an old problem. Because every client comes with his and her own set of inner resources and learnings, the execution period is the most satisfying because the client is finally slaying the dragon of worn-out beliefs and outdated behaviors. After the game, clients are often hunger for greater change and higher bars.
